Throughout 2021, Valyōu Furniture has continued to evolve as a brand and excite us with new content. True to form, their new YouTube content series is keeping us on our toes. After a sleek revamp and introducing a new high-end industrial brand (Foundry), Valyōu has recently adopted another strategy that says a lot without saying a word.

A selection of ASMR films featuring artist Laura Odermatt kicks off the channel’s new content series. For those unfamiliar with the Youtube phenomenon, ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is the tingling sensation listeners get from hearing particular noises. Many ASMR artists, such as RaffyTaphy, Tingting, and Gibi, create popular videos that aim to elicit these pleasurable feelings for listeners. Valyōu’s personal spin on the genre is the oh so satisfying sounds of unboxing their products.

Valyōu brings more artistic content with Designers, a series that examines individual artists to learn more about their inspiration, process, and work. Ruby De Simone, an artist and illustrator, is the subject of the first episode. De Simone talks about her journey as an artist and her personal connection to her work in this episode.

The final new series, Furniture Flippers, is located where design, craftsmanship, and decor collide. This series will follow the transformation of yard sale discoveries into beautiful pieces. The series kicks off with an MCM recreation by Todd Avendaño, which can be found here.

Cristian Mercado, Valyōu Furniture’s newest addition and a seasoned video producer, describes the new series as “an exploration of authenticity and a deep dive into the company’s heart.” The company’s ideals and driving forces are reflected in the latest aesthetic focus. “YouTube is wonderful for connecting creators to their audience authentically,” Mercado said when asked why YouTube.

Since the age of 14, Mercado has been making short films. Currently, he is writing and developing a feature-length documentary and a feature. He has previously directed music videos, ads for the fashion brands, and has developed YouTube channels.

The new series, which explores artistic processes, was inspired by Valyōu Furniture’s passionate commitment to art and design. With beautiful, accessible furniture, the brand sets out to inspire clients to create beautiful spaces.

As a furniture company, Mercado explains, the process of making true art is all about finding a connection to people. “How to find the beating heart of a furniture company? You can think of it two ways, the type of content the audience connects with will determine the type of content we move forward with, but I think what will really end up happening is that what we, as a company, connect with will end up also connecting with our audience. The idea for ASMR is that, as a company, we enjoy those types of videos. We are excited by them, and that’s a good indicator that others will be too, and what we create will be more authentic. We aren’t trying to read the analytics too hard, imagining an assemblage of data points that will be watching our videos, but we are creating videos that we and other people will find entertaining and informative.”

Mercado outlines his ongoing path through filmmaking when asked where he sees himself in this process. “My approach to making YouTube videos is informed and warped by my approach to making and working on films. You can only find quality within. You have to make what you know and do it every day to refine your craft, the delivery system of what you know.”

For the time being, Mercado sees YouTube as a means of gaining more artistic freedom. “It’s clearly the next step, and I’m excited to see how this channel grows and changes and the type of community that gets excited about this content. I’ll do my best to make what I and the company know, and look forward to building something interesting for the YouTube community.”
