Compassion and Cause: Milk Tyson Launches Organization to Help Children With Cancer and Their Families
In many fictional pieces, whether it’s movies, television, or stories, we often meet a character who seems to show an undaunted coolness about them as if nothing in the world could move their hearts of stone. However, as the story progresses, they always show signs of caring for someone.
Now, looking at the real world, we see a lot of people like that. Milk Tyson, born in Massachusetts, is a figure covered in tattoos and whose eyes are covered by his signature shades, giving no one a chance to read his emotions. Tyson is loud and aggressive, often misunderstood by others.
He came from a background where he slept on the streets and frequently came to blows with gangs of Los Angeles. Tyson was tough, and he was sure that he had met the roughest, scrappiest fighters around.
In the A-list crowd, he was known as a bad boy socialite. Most notably, he is known for being great friends with Justin Bieber and was often seen hanging with the likes of Diddy, as well as other celebrities.
During a giveaway on Twitter, Tyson was choosing who to walk with for Justin’s Believe movie premiere. He read a young girl who had cancer and wanted to invite her; however, he brought someone else. Throughout the event, Tyson kept thinking about the girl with cancer. It was on that night that he decided to enter the world of childhood cancer.
Tyson would go around the country to meet and talk with dozens of families fighting the monster, cancer. During his travels, he found out that many of the families had to take full-time jobs to seek access and apply for available assistance. He would realize that while many organizations had good intentions, some are still hard to reach.
He decided to help these families with their bills and introduce kids to some of their idols like Zendaya and Pharell Williams. Tyson realized that he couldn’t do this all on his own, so he started the foundation called FAM, short for Fighting All Monsters.
Together with FAM, Tyson has been turning the nonprofit world upside-down. They have been working on their mission to bring quality support to families with children facing life-threatening challenges. Using his own money, and with the help of donors, Tyson has been able to raise over a million dollars. He donates every dollar directly to families while having operational expenses paid by sponsors.
They have also sent hundreds of new iPads to the warriors in treatment to keep themselves entertained and educated. To help families, FAM helps pay the bills to keep the lights on, the mortgages and rents current, and their cars on the road.
FAM has a slogan that says, “Shut up and do something,” encouraging others to take action instead of constantly meeting with no proper direction. They make sure that they don’t have the same strict requirements, request piles of personal details, and paperwork that other organizations have.
Tyson makes it a point to fulfill bucket lists, moving families into new apartments, furnishing them, and even giving rooms makeovers, complete with giant inflatables, tents, and toys to kids who are unable to leave their hospital rooms. At some point, he has even sent a warrior a llama.
